Hi,

I am giving up with this bloody pc. My DVD-writer struggles to read the cd's/dvd's and I have tried numberous ones. It will read it then freeze. Then I have to take the cd/dvd out and re-enter it before it starts to read it again.

Could it be the cable that runs from the DVD-writer to motherboard? But then wouldn't the HDD also give problems cause it runs off the same cable?

They mustn't run on the same cable, HDD and DVD on seperate ide cables, try seperate them and see if it helps.

well they can run on the cable will just be slow than if they ran seperate

but sounds like it could be either the cable or the ide port is busted

In my experience running them on the same cable always gives intermittent errors with either the hdd or cd/dvd. if it was the cable then the hdd would also give trouble. i prefer them seperate. if it gives the same problem when they seperate then its the ide port like killadoob said

no no no no

you can run them fine on the same cable, with no errors whatsoever, it could be slower than runing them on separate cables though!

the problem is most likely the optical drive itself, I have many friends that bought this cheap no-name dvd writers (like sahara) and they had to replace them little later because they will cease to work in similar way like yours. So if you have one of those real cheap ones, throw it away and go buy some decent brand like Sony, Pioneer, Philips etc.

the other option is that it is dirty ....

hmmm dont real cheap ones come with a 1year thing?

go and have it replaced

yes go buy sony maybe you'll get spyware

should I ask what this spyware is?
it is a software, which sends information about you to whoever has installed it ...

but I wouldn't believe that you can get a spyware in a brand dvd writer :)
