dying SD PVR

I have a dying SD PVR.

The decoder takes about 20 minutes to boot up, and occasionally I get a message that I can't use the PVR functions because there is no initialized HDD.

I'm not worried about the HDD, because that will be upgraded shortly.

I'm more concerned about the 20 minute boot up time...is this a consequence of the dying HDD, or is it a sign of the decoder dying in general?
