Guys,

I would appreciate some idea and help with regards to problems i am experiencing with DYN DNS services.

I deploy various types of IP based security equipment(mainly cameras) and use ADSL or 3G routers and connections to connect remotley. Obviously we setup DYNDNS accounts to allow this access due to lack of fixed external IP. Now the problem comes in when i have an IP device and NO computer. If something power or broadband related goes down when the IP change occurs then the DNS account looses it and i have no connection to the device. We then have to drive out and with a laptop update the IP and DNS account. This is happening more and more all the time and is frustrating!

Any ways around this????

Also.....does anybody know of a LOCAL DYN DNS type service so that we can keep our traffic local and have the benefit of using local cap and not international?

Any help or ideas will be much appreciated!

We have been using Netgear DG routers for ADSL lines

And the Cisco Vodacome router for 3G

Will be trying the new Huwaei Routers for future 3G deployments.

We are open to using any other routers that will solve the problem...

I also use Netgear Routers and haven't had a problem with it loosing dyndns host name. I have also used the Telkom Mega 10x (105) /Zyxel routers without any dyndns problems.

I did alot of router setups for DVR Servers (cctv) and all still work. Maybe the router you using is faulty, maybe upgrading to the latest firmware will sort it out.

This happens with lots of routers, many different sites, many different ISP's. The problems comes in when i dont have a PC on the connections. Not normal DVR's but embedded DVR's or IP cam only setups

I assume you are using the dyndns updater build into the router, and router based connection (not bridged), rather than a PC based updating program. If you are the it should make no difference what is behind the router.

we are not using DNS updaters hence the problem. The routers we use dont seem to have that feature...unless i am missing something? Will it just be called DNS updater?

As for "router based conenction (not bridged) " im not sure what you you mean. Please explain....

Thanks Daveogg!

Why don't you see if your IP camera's have a built in Dynamic Dns facility ie Axis IP webcam use their own site called www.axiscam.net (register the MAC address of the camera).

We have a few webcams using a combination of Netgear DSL and Telkom routers that connect our cameras, we collect images every 5-10 minutes, not sure if that makes a difference.

Look in the Router logs and maybe gets some type of software that pings your camera every few minutes
(The Dude from Mikrotik (windows based)or even better Nagios(Linux)) Just my 2c worth.
