I have a Billion BiPAC7300A Router. It has the capability to act as a dynDNS client (i.e. it will connect to the dyndns server with my username and password and sync with it). That is groovy.

The problem, however, is that I am running an apache server on my pc (which connects through the router), and I am unable to view my apache server via my dyndns URL, it just times out. I have tried setting up port forwarding on port 80 for my router, but it doesn't seem to have helped. Does anyone know of any alternatives?

I would just use my router as a modem in Bridged LLC mode but I have more than one pc connecting through it and thus would rather it just handled the connection.

I am using a Billion BiPAC7300A Router with port forwarding without any hassles at all. You won't be able to use the dyndns address from your PC however as that address will point to the ADSL IP address.

Also make sure you apply (button at the bottom) the virtual server settings.

My router is currently syncing the dynDNS. I am not running a sync app on my PC at all. What do I need to set up in order to be able to access the apache server on my PC from the internet?

Only thing that you need to do is port forwarding.

Just remember you cannot go out from you own LAN onto the WAN and back into your own LAN. Let a friend check the DYNDNS address and see if he can reach the server.

Actually you can access your port forwarded webserver using your external ip from your local lan on the billion 7300. Some routers don't do loopback on external ip but the 7300 does this correctly.

First you need to check that you have setup the dyndns correctly and ping the dyndns name, if the ip address that is resolved by ping is the same as the one that is displayed on "http://whatismyip.com" then that is setup correctly.

Then check that the port forwarding is correct in router. Configuration->Virtual Server->Add , then select "HTTP (TCP:80)" from Service select drop down. Enter your webserver pc's ip in "Mapped Private IP Address" click return and then apply. (you should also save configuration)

if you still can't access your webserver using your dyndns name then you must check if you are running a firewall on your pc (ie windows firewall). if you are running a firewall then you must unblock port 80.

it's also advistable to make your ip address static on your pc. otherwise it could get a different ip from you routers dhcp server and break your port forwarding.

Thanks for your detailed help, Gambit.

The dyndns is indeed pingable and resolves to the correct IP address. I have switched off my Windows firewall and don't currently have any other third-party firewall running in its place.

I have set up port forwarding correctly on port 80, as well as set up a forward configuration for the http server/client on port 80 on the router's built-in firewall. For some reason I still can't access it though :(

Any other thoughts?

This address is working. Well sort of, there is nothing on the page because of your security setup. That means the problem is with your apache setup and not the dyndns setup.

Abe is correct. A 403 error is an error from the webserver.

I'm not sure it is an apache thing. I think it might be the router's remote access itself. Usually a 403 error from an apache server has the "Powered by Apache" footer.

How would I go about checking the security setup in apache? I'm not big on web servers...

Do you have to run on port 80? Why not try and configure the apache on port 443 or another port? It does not have to be a secure site. I have a feeling that you may also be getting a conflict with the router configuration. Also, make sure your "Remote Access" under the Router "System Configuration" is disabled.

At the very least, you should change the Router HTTP Port in the "Advanced/Device Management" section to another port. Also make sure you save the settings and reboot the router.

I finally got it working!

I updated my router's firmware, changed its web interface port and then added a virtual server to forward port 80.

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it! :D

I totally forgot about this. The newer firmwares for the 7300 have an issue where the built in webserver (for router configuration) overides port forwards on port 80. The 1.09 firmware didn't do this.
