Hi Guys

Need some advice please. I work for a US company in SA. Corporate policies ban all pst files from pc's so no e-mail archiving is possible. They have archive facilities in the US but we are a very small office in SA so they do not want to give us access. They say we must manage our mails by deleting them and/or removing attachments but that makes you lose all backup docs. Crazy I know.

I now want to set up e-mail address elsewhere and then put auto forward on my Outlook to route all mails to this external address. Is there any provider that you can recommend? I would prefer if the mails can be in pst format for backup purposes. Also I will need a lot of storage space for attachments so it would be better if they are stored on my PC not on the provider's server.

Advice would be appreciated.

So what you are asking for is a way to get around your corporate policy? Which is probably there for a reason, however unreasonable it might seem to you?

I'd revisit the archiving facility in the US option if I were you. Either that, or ask them to give you a big enough mailbox on the server that you don't need to worry about archiving stuff.

Red Flags

Unreasonable is the correct word
I would be VERY wary of ANY company that was not interested in archiving mail
I am also sure that for corporate and legal purposes mail must be archived.

Does the company have any corporate policy documents ?
Are they audited ?

Time to look at the fine print !

Just back up your PST File, get a small NAS or external HDD, and dump the PST in there, quick, easy, cheap.

EDIT: Or if you crazy about loss or theft, Open a cloud back up service like what Afrihost has and upload PST files to there as well

If its not big files u can use Google drive/sky drive etc. space which is free...

Also, Is your email setup from your company's exchange server? if it is, then they already have backup...

quite tough when they ban pst files...
Just save the large attachments to the hard drive or external media. Im assuming the problem is mailbox size related.

I am assuming that OP is using Exchange, probably set up in cahe mode on his local machine.

Just regularly extract all these mails to a .pst on the local machine. Back up the .pst somewhere. Delet the .pst from the local machine.
This all can only be done if the domain policies allows this...

:wtf: Ban pst... That sucks.

well you can always locate the pst folder and copy it from there?

by sounds of the OP, his company blocks him from moving mails into a pst.

I had the same issue a while ago, pst's was also not allowed. you can create a pst but when you try to move a mail in outlook into your pst it just gives an error msg "unable to complete operation".

Well, OP is a bit vague: Can he not Export anything from his Outlook? What is mail solution is used by the company? What Domain policies are in place etc etc. Believe me there is always a way...
