I'm running Windows 7 with Windows Live Mail.
When I had XP e-mails were sent immediately but now they can take ages.
I have been trying to send an e-mail with about 1.5mb file attachments
since yesterday but it remains in the outbox.
I have just this moment opened the e-mail in the outbox and have copied below part of the message
that popped up.

The message could not be sent. The setting for your outgoing email [SMTP] server might need to be configured. To find the server settings for '[email protected]', please contact your email service provider.

Subject 'Attention: Jenny Bower'
Server Error: 550
Server Response: 550 Unrouteable address
Server: 'smtp.afrihost.co.za'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC79
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No

Before someone says that the address must be incorrect, I must add that I have tried to send it with the attachments to my son and it also remains in the outbox.

Who is your ISP and which SMTP server are you using?

smtp.afrihost.co.za?

@lightinginnovations.co.za maybe?

Or try SMTP server smtp.afrihost.com also.

Yes, Afrihost. Sorry, I'm clueless regarding SMTP. Will get my son to assist here.

Is Afrihost both you ISP and your SMTP settings?
In other words, do you use Afrihost? Are you using them at the moment?
They have to be the same for your mail to be sent.

@lightinginnovations.co.za maybe?

Or try SMTP server smtp.afrihost.com also.

If the address was incorrect the mail would still go out and just bounce back.

Delete the mail out of your Outbox.

If you cannot delete the mail, it means it is spooling but cannot get out. Restart your printspoolerservice.
If you can delete the mail it never started spooling in the first place.
In that case see if a plain empty test email does leave your Outbox when sent to the same address.

Then it will be prudent to follow Gary's advice as it would seem to be a SMTP issue. Are you perhaps using different internet connections, e.g. at work with Afrihost and at home with a Vodacom dongle etc?

Let us know.........

Problem solved. The e-mail address I was using had one letter incorrect. Because of this I was prevented from sending
any e-mails until I removed this.
