E-toll - even more costs

Wouldn't it be easier to just pay for the roads with some kind of a fuel levy, and avoid all this hassle of tagging everyone manually with all this administration and toll gate costs?

I mean, why not just add the costs to our fuel/tax?

You see efficiencies in the largest economic hub as having not national impact? You see air-freight charges as provincial issues? You see higher input costs in the largest African economic hub as being isolated to a provincial issue? You see lower disposable income in Gauteng as having no national significance? You see superfluous spending on unnecessary infrastructure in Gauteng as being of no national significance?

Because that's the inference from your statement. If there is no benefit, then there is also no downside. If there is however downside, then there certainly is national benefit derived...

I'd be more than happy if the Western Cape was separated from the rest of the ANC led country, and all of the Northern/Eastern Cape people sent home - pretty sure we'd manage fine with the taxes generated here.

Considering the amount of those Gauteng taxes that get spent on corruption. Pretty sure that R200mil+ spent on Zuma's house would have gone a long way on the Gauteng roads maintenance.

Gauteng runs rings around the African continent in general. But we need our FREEway to maintain the economy. There's no alternative yet.

I'll gladly register for e-toll when JHB builds a subway system - a fair alternative to using roads. haha!

But what does that have to do with anything at all? I can also state that I personally don't derive direct benefit from funding education. I do indirectly, of course, but if we're talking about direct benefit then using your logic I should object to funding any and all education as well.

If you want to go on that, then we will only have 2 functioning provinces, Gauteng and the Western Cape. IIRC Gauteng contributes over 60% of the WHOLE country's tax, so there's always that you know.
