E-tolling is completely rational - Sanral

Well, they're right. "We need more money to keep the gravy train rolling" is perfectly rational. Doesn't make it right though.

Cost of road upgrade: 20 billion

e-toll administration cost over 30 years: 21 billion (105% of road cost)
fuel levy administration cost over 30 years: 120 million (0.6% of road cost)

It's clear as day why they chose the e-toll system instead of the fuel levy system...
 
SANRAL are missing the point.

The project is titled "Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project".
The operative word being "Freeway" not "Paidway" or "Payway" or "Tollway"!

Every citizen is already paying for transport infrastructure through taxes and levies and now they want us to pay more through tolls.

I suggest you look at Egypt rather .. the people have spoken.

The above argument by Underhalter for SCAMRAL is incorrect. A shopkeeper will lose customers because they will simply go to other stores. SANRAL won't lose customers because we have NO ALTERNATIVES!

Because the greeks lived beyond their means.... SANRAL fscked up, they can clean it up with all the sticky fingered criminals that helped them.
 
There is nothing rational about this to the average common man... but it makes perfect sense to the thieving scumbags in the ANC who came up with what they thought was a flawless plan to rape the masses financially.

Does anyone have a timeline on this etoll saga?

Not really been following in previous months since it's been so far away, but the more this unravels the more it stinks.

It boggles the mind that it can get all the way to "gantries up, turnstiles open" before anyone realises that it's not operationally sustainable. Where are the professional accountants who signed off the business case? Who approved the tenders and when? When were the overall plans put before the various approval boards and whatnot?

Anyone here done any work or tenders for government at any level? If you have, you know how much red tape and approval you have to go through before you start doing any work.
