I was on myBB when I posted this, then caught anot
Is anybody on this forum perhaps using the E-tube cable service in Midstream Estates to connect to the Internet?

I had it installed for a client at the beginning of this year, but due to it being very unstable and slow, they decided to cancel it after three months.

Apparently some upgrades were done on the setup recently and I just want to find out if the problems were sorted out?

I want to know that it is working properly this time around before giving the client the go-ahead to try it again.

Thanks a lot.

Bleh, good luck with e-Tube ... I had it for three months in 2005, and told them to shove it ... their definition of broadband 24/7 was 40 users connected on a 64 Diginet line.

I haven't touched them ever since, as the main man there told me that they give packet priority to people who stuck with them through the initial teething problems.

Rather go for ADSL

Thanks Landyman,

I was also thinking the same thing.

Do you perhaps know how reliable the ADSL service is there? In other words, will they more or less get the speeds that they pay for?

According to Telkom's Website their line can be converted to ADSL status, but I do not know how far they are from the exchange. I want to be sure that I don't tell them to get one package and then because of distance factors from the exchange, they experience much lower speeds than their package specifies again.

My neighbour's got ADSL ... can find out from him (I am on iBurst). The exchange is PISS far ... line of sight about 4 kms I guess (we are on the Rooihuiskraal exchange). But they are running fibre optics with DSLAMS and whatever else is required to get ADSL. Midstream was one of Telkom's first trials for ADSL over Fibre.

That would be great if you can find out for me how satisfied they are with it.

This client will make regular video calls through Skype to family in the UK, so slow speeds will definitely not do.

Man, the guys from E-tube are really bad. Three weeks have gone by after we requested the point to be activated, and still nothing but a bunch of empty promises.

I think it is time for someone to go in there and make a killing where their business is concerned. Maybe if they sit without any customers will it begin to dawn on them that they should have actually put in some effort to keep them happy.

I went with MTN's broadband service in the end and that performed great. I selected the option only to use the 3G network, because the HSDPA modem is going to stay in one place.

MUCH faster than E-tube's connection ever was.

Anybody out there want to make use of the Midrand-Estates (Midstream) eTube service -> my recommendation is to rather stay away!!! It is not worth the frustration. Midrand-Estates eTube make even Telkom broadband appear more appealing.

I took up the advertised "24/7" broadband service almost a year ago and have experienced endless problems. During this almost 1 year, my "24/7" service has been down so much that I calculate an availability rate of approx. 80% over the year... The norm for telcom grade services are measured at 98% for radio access and 99.5% ~ 99.995% availability for core/data network. As this is not a radio network I would expect at least 99.5% availability of eTube service in Midstream.

80% <> "24/7" !!!! -> Somebody else on this forum mentioned false advertising?

And the customer service -> Pathetic. After escalating my problems to the "Director" of eTube, still no action.

My Vodacom 3G / HSDPA service is my current reliable source of broadband. My wife uses MTN 3G and is also quite happy with it -> one would expect that wired broadband would offer more stability than wireless broadband, but this is not the case with eTube.
