Pretoria - One of the criminals who threatened in an interview on eNews last week to target the 2010 Fifa World Cup has been arrested, Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa said on Thursday.

"Our specialised unit, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations, the "Hawks", in the early hours of this morning arrested one of the self-confessed kingpins in Tshepisong, near Kagiso," Mthethwa told the National Press Club.

"According to the footage, this is the thug who boasted and threatened to rob and kill during the World Cup.

"The ownership of the gun that was displayed in the footage remains a mystery but police investigations are at an advanced stage," he added.

Mthethwa said the man had provided police with "valuable information".

The arrested man was out on parole for robbery.

haha... out on parole. Surely this then is a violation of his parole.

But what is the bet he will go free because of lack of evidence... then the ANC will try to silently make the story go away.

Clearly he has violated his parole conditions, he will serve time, SAPS will want to make an example of him, in their interest, most probably before the world cup.

Besides, as mentioned by the OP he is already cooperating with the police.
 
i feel that this is wrong, i mean regardless if he is a criminal he chose to share something and not have to pay for it, and now he is paying for it. we are given an insight into why these criminals are like this and the SAPD throws a fit and wants to lock them up now because somebody knows where they are. how are any criminals going to give up their lifestyles if they're too afraid and untrusting when people say "we won't harm you, honestly"?

if i recall the interview i remember he criminal saying that he has a criminal record an can't get a job anywhere else, tho i could be wrong. just when i listened to that interview i felt more sympathy than any fear.

If they were afraid they wouldn't be making threats to rob and kill.... :confused:

A criminal is never going to give up his easy criminal lifestyle because you are being nice to him. Instead he will rob, and even kill you. We aren't talking about confused teenagers here. We are talking about people that have never lifted a finger in their lives to do any sort of work. All they know is the easy life of crime...

i just feel that it was an honest interview. call me optimistic but i don't believe most people want to intentionally hurt others, they just get fed up and angry and feel like they have no other options. if it was easy for criminals to escape a life of crime and easy for them to integrate with society normally then perhaps things would be better, because then what use are jails if they just temporarily harbour criminals?

if the police wanted to catch them they should have at least done it without the help of E tv, i mean just the interview gave off so many clues as to what their real identities were.

:wtf: He is a criminal! Let him rot in jail. I don't feel any empathy for the scum... There are lots of people that suffers financialy... they don't go and brag about killing and robbing people on national tv.

then i apologise, i must have missed that part of the interview because all i remember is seeing a criminal with a stocking over his face smoking and saying why he couldn't get a job, and that he would be robbing tourists. i just have carte blanche syndrome when they make the people talk in the dark with their voices altered so they can't be held responsible on the program, but now these guys try to do the same and people want to crucify them

You are making several erroneous assumptions. These criminals don’t want to intentionally hurt others (waste of time), they just see them as obstacles. They are generally not sadistic psychopaths and don’t want to torture (hurting others), they just want the object of their desire and will functionally remove all obstacles. There is no angst involved, kill rather than wound to prevent a screaming, flopping body bleeding all over your cool new shoes.

You talk about ‘integrating with normal society’. I think the definition of ‘normal society’ is changing. America is too nannyish and Haiti is too extreme. Afghanistan and Iraq are war torn but I would venture that the new ‘normal’ would be closer to them than America.
