e220 bricked

Get a newer one instead.

The E220 is not the fastest kid on the block.
This doesn't help when the networks in your area are limited to no more than 2Mbps of real speed. Even then I'd accept 7.2Mbps which the E220 can do, it's just the upload side that's a bit limiting & that's not necessarily a bad thing:)

Managed to flash the second e220 on an XP pc. I get the same speeds as I did with the 3.6 firmware. So its probably my area more than anything else.

I just got an e367 and did a few tests to compare the two.
These are for the e220, first is the mybroadband server SA, the mybroadband international, then speedtest.net

The signal in my area is not the greatest, but cell c and 8ta seem to be the best over here.
These tests were done using the 8ta 10gb promo sim.

What do you guys think? Worth the switch?

I would say its worth it for nearly 100% increase in speeds
upload is much better too
And when you do eventually get better signal in your area, youll have the hardware to surport it

Yeah, decided to keep it, initially I tested it with cell c and it had the exact same speeds as the e220(with 8ta), would have just put it up for sale lol. Got better speeds with 8ta though, which is what I need.

Btw my modem is completely dead, no lights flash when connected. Also I wish I visited this thread before attempting to upgrade the second one.

You'll need to update both the firmware and the drivers/onboard software on an XP machine. It could just be that the radio is off. See if you can find the device in Device Manager. There should be a Mass Storage + USB Composite device. If you have multiple USB devices connected you may have to check the Device ID. Dbl click the device, select advanced. Go to Hardware ID. You should see VEN_12D1 for Huawei devices. If the drivers are properly installed there should be Huawei devices under Ports and a Modem device under modems.

Keep the modem connected to the pc. Pull out the usb port and plug it into a different port. Wait a min. Then run the flash again
