Please can someone suggest possible solutions to the problem I am having?

I use a E220 modem on MTN's network. Lately my modem has been dropping the data connection after a maximum of 20 minutes. The tunnel remains connected to MTN's network but there is zero throughput. I then disconnect the tunnel, reconnect to MTN and I have service again for the next 10 to 20 minutes before the throughput zeroes out again.

This is highly frustrating as I use a friend's E230 on my system and in functions perfectly. I should mention that I have re-installed operating systems several times, I have tried on XP, Vista and the Windows 7 RC I am testing at present. I have also bought a new PC and I have the same problem on multiple operating systems (all installed independently of each other at separate times) on the new system.

I am highly frustrated by MTN's lack of customer services. No one I have spoken to (including management) have taken ownership or resolved this issue that has been on-going for months now.

Any assistance that can be provided would be gladly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I have had an E220 for more than 2 years, using it as a backup to my regular ISP and when I am travelling. Having gotten it from MTN, it originally came with the MTN software and firmware. Having had similar issues to what you are describing, I flashed the firmware with the generic "Mobile Partner" version. It now works like a dream on any network (I now use a VC prepaid SIM).

Just Google where to find the latest version (its all over the net) and follow the instructions how to flash the E220 with the latest firmware.

Hope it helps you.

Does similar exist for E170? That MTN s/w is *** and I never use it except to see what kind of signal I have...
