Hi all

I have installed the Hauwei dashboard on my E220 to see if I could get things running on Win7. It is a work modem and now I need to get the MTN software back on (F@stlink).

I have searched the forum and found a lot of dead links etc but havent been able to find out how to revert the software.

Can anyone please help?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quick reply.

The download that is available on the MTN website you suggested is actually just the firmware upgrade and not the MTN F@stlink user interface.

Does anyone know where I can obtain the install file to reinstall F@stlink on the modem?

Thanks

I bought a 2nd hand E220 a while back with Vodacom software. I wanted to try the MTN 'dashboard' but it is not available from MTN (at least I couldn't find it) only the firmware as you say. Vodacom have their modem software freely available for download on their site but I think you are stuck with finding the MTN software through some unofficial channel like from another modem maybe?

Thanks for the reply.

I managed to find a copy of this software on the MTN Nigeria website.

Who would have thought?

To anyone else using Windows 7 in a similar situation, it's now a helluva lot easier simply to use the generic Windows connection software (i.e. click the network icon in the system tray). Not only does this avoid installing anyone's clunky dashboard or software, but it also means you can simply slap in ANY SIM from ANY network and it should be recognised instantly. The proprietary MTN and VC software usually won't accept a rival SIM.

There is a downside: that the generic Windows 7 application does not keep track of your usage. Easy to fix with, e.g. the freebie Tautology Bandwidth Meter (http://textmode.cwahi.net/bm.html) which runs in the background and does a pretty good job. (Good old standby alternative NetMeter is unhappy with Windows 7 and chews up an inordinate amount of CPU cycles if you check in your Task Manager -- up to 20%)

And of course as long as you are not using a netbook with its shallow screen, you could also connect (and log your data use) using the homegrown MDMA freebie...

Not suprised. Nigerian and Keyan companies are rather sorted when it comes to technology. You should be more suprised at the disorganisation of SA companies, SA being Africa's economic powerhouse with its 26 Gripen fighter jets and all.
