I'm having trouble with my modem. Whenever the connection idles, it jumps to 2G. Then it is nearly impossible to get it back to connecting on 3G. Sometimes I have to disconnect, select the 3G network, and then reconnect. Other times I have to unplug the modem.

Since about 1 o'clock today I cannot connect at 3G at all. It simply refuses to connect on the 3G network.

I am using an E220 on Windows XP SP2. I am still using the VMC Lite that comes with the modem. The one on the VC site crashes my pc.

Does anyone know what might be wrong?

Well you would need to force a '3G Only' profile. And you cannot do that on VMC Lite version 2.2.1.

There is VMC Lite version 3.2.1 that is available on the Vodacom website. Is this the version that crashes your PC? Or are you talking about the VMC 9.3 that crashes your PC?

Both these versions should be able to force a '3G Only' connection.

Other options are MDMA (Mobile Data Monitoring Application) or HMP (Huawei Mobile Partner).

Thanks for the reply.

It's the VMC 9.3 that crashes my pc. I'll try the 3.2.1 version and see if it works.

You should really check out MDMA. Full of features and a small footprint :)

I found it works with VMCLite 3.2.1. No problems so far. I will check properly on Saturday, since the problem mainly occurs during the day, and I'm only at home that time on Saturdays and Sundays.

MDMA doesn't work for me. It does connect to the internet, but no data transfer happens and all of the pages I try to visit errors out.

I think you may been experiencing a network problem at the time, MDMA only monitors responses from the modem, it does no networking whatsoever.
