I have just updated my E220 modem to the latest firmware, to support 7.2Mbps. I have the following questions.

1. What is the maximum theoretical upload speed for this modem with the new firmware?
2. Is there any 7.2Mbps enabled towers in South Africa? In Cape Town? In Somerset West?
3. What is the highest speed that someone got with this modem in S.A.? Upload and Download. I am not talking about Vodacom\MTN or insider testing. This should be available to the public.
4. Has anyone tried to Skype with video to Australia on the 3.6 or 7.2 service? How was the quality?

Hi. After updateing my dads E220 I go connected at 7.2Mbps here in Somerset West - opposit Somerset House Primary school. As I was using my standard VC contract simm card did not want test at R2 a meg.

But it was fast when i downloaded a 10 meg file.

But the weirdest was that I have not activated anything on my new contract regarding HSDPA.

The only way to be sure of what you get, would be to test at speed.vodacom.co.za. I have just confirmed with Vodacom3G, that nobody can actually get 7.2Mbps on the 3G network yet. I am guessing that you saw a notification from your modem that the max speed is now 7.2Mbps. That says nothing about the actual speed.
