Hi folks
Some of the guys have upgraded from XP to windows 7.
Windows 7 did not recognise E220s at all when inserting. After a bit of battling, I managed to update the firmware and software on the device (no thanks to the Vodacom website, their links do nothing!!) using the vodafone website.

Thereafter, the device is recognised, the virtual CD rom is seen, and software installation starts.
On windows 7 32bit everything runs fine and works; but on 64 bit all I get is an animation saying "settin up your device".

Any suggestion welcome.

there is a registry hack that you have to do...
I found this out when I took in 2 devices for the same reason...
I had a soft copy of the key to create, as well as a printed instruction, but misplaced the print and Laptop was formatted due to encryption messing up... long story short, I lost the key...
Check with a vodacom store, and ask them which regsitry key should be created for windows 7 64bit.

Give me a sec.. trying to find the key on my laptop.

either buy a new modem, or take it into vodacom and tell them it's faulty you would like them to honour their free modem replacement add for faulty modems.

It's not the modem but the 64 bit that is the problem... I unfortunately do not have the key on this laptop, but I will get it for you tomorrow... I think if I remember correctly, it was an autoinstall32.dll or something of the sort...
I will get it from Vodacom again.

Here we go...

So, go to Vodacom and download the latest Mobile Broadband soft: http://help.vodacom.co.za/portal/en...re_downloads&type=Broadband&softdown=Software

Then, do the following:

Open Device Manager
Remove the modem driver in question
Run Regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Create a “string” value named “Installer32”, and set it to “mdminst.dll,ClassInstall32”
Scan for hardware in Device Manager

Run Vodacom software, go to devices, et viola!!

OK, could not find the driver in device manager, but checking the registry, I saw the entries were already there.
Using the above, I just plugged in the modem, waited for the "setting up your device" notificaiton to dissapear, and tried running the updated software, and after quite a while, I saw a message saying device found, and hey presto everything worked from then on.
Thanks for the help guys!!
