I received this phone yesterday. My previous phones have not had WLAN capability. Everything working fine so far except that it searches for a network but cannot find any, even though my laptop is picking up a such a signal at home and at work. Settings is Yes for "show WLAN availability". Am I missing something here? Is there something else I need to set up first? The manual says "To use WLAN, you must create an internet access point in a WLAN. Use the accesss point for applications that need to connect to the internet. A WLAN connection is established when you create a data connection using a WLAN access point". I must say that I am not sure I understand what this means, and it is not explained in any further detail in the manual.

Have Googled the problem - came across one other instance of this, and the phone needed to be changed. So, I need to clarify this before my exchange window closes (next Thursday). Thank you for any assistance offered.

Are you using the WLAN scanning on the active standby screen? (Bear in mind that I am using an N82)

I find that if I click on "WLAN scanning" on the active standby screen it often says "No WLAN network found". If it is highlighted and I then press the centre of the D-pad it will bring up some options there, often including networks it has found.

If it does not then I usually try the option "Search for WLAN" again and it then sometimes finds it.

Another option is the "WLAN Wiz" which I have on the N82. Not sure if you have it?

Worth a try....

Yes, it tries automatically from the stand by screen as soon as I unlock the phone or come back to the home screen after doing something else. I have tried both of your suggestions, but it still does not come up with anything.

It should just find them. I have an E51 and sitting in my flat right now I can pick up 6 networks near me. I didn't do any special setup, it just worked out the box

That's what I've been thinking - should just work from out of the box. If not, there would have been a whole lot more questions and advice sought on this forum and elsewhere about set up, and there are not. My wife has an E65 and it also picked up signals first time we tried. Oh well, looks like I am going back to the shop tomorrow....

Good news! My WLAN problem has resolved itself. Possibly by following Rule Number 3 i.e. switch off phone, take out battery and SIM card, put back in, restart. Had tried Rule Number 1 (read the manual), Rule Number 2 (switch phone off and on) already without success, and went to Rule Number 4 (ask for help on MyBroadband) too early. But thanks anyway for your solidarity in this process. I am greatly comforted to be a member of this community knowing that I can ask for help if I need to. Have gained a lot of knowledge through general reading in the forum as well.
