EA blunders SimCity launch

You realise this game is a roaring success, right? It sold amazingly well all over. I'd hardly classify getting amazing sales a 'fail.'

Did that person really take a picture of their screen then uploaded it to their computer.... If only their was some built-in way to take a picture of one's screen

Lol I love that tone you use :D

yeah some people hey....facepalm

The always on Internet connection is a HUGE no-no for me.

Thank heavens that Sc2:HoTS only requires that you login once, then you can play offline.

Holy cow! I didn't know about this!!! Thanks! Now I'm looking forward to playing SC2 HOTS.

Yes, if you run SC2 now, it's gonna install a 8GB patch.

It totally revamps the game, unit functions look different, new menus, new graphics - I had to replay the whole game again.

Do the 8GB update on your night owl, or uncapped.

I decided to ignore this game when I heard about the tiny 2km X 2km plots. Its more sim neighbourhood than sim city

Spend more time optimizing there game engine next time EA. You cut corners you greedy buggers

I don't know where the 2x2 story came from but it doesn't seem like that when you are playing. There is plenty of space, and then again, not enough. It forces you to manage your resources better. Just get away from thinking about it as that size. Also, the multiplayer aspect means that you can consider the region to be a metro. Sort of Joburg and you're Sandton, Randburg, Roodepoort etc.

No it's not. There's been a lot said about the new simulation engine, how everything's calculated on your PC, down to the last little sim-dude on your map. The connection is for the DRM and inter-zone trade aspects. I was playing it tonight during heavy rain, and my ADSL was up and down (that's an issue I'll take up with Telkom on Monday :( ), and the game never had any hiccups, it was definitely simulating everything locally (Unlike D3, that if your connection went down for a second, it stopped the gameplay until it came up - at least that's what it was like when I played it, near launch, no idea if they fixed that)

My install is 3.8gigs.

The DRM is awful, but their servers have been stable today and I played quite a bit - it's a great game. EA backtracked on DRM like this with Spore and issued a patch removing it, let's hope they do the same for SimCity. Diablo3 definitely had a worse launch than SimCity. That was godawful. And on top of it, even when Blizzard fixed it, the game was meh.
That's the worst thing about games like this, I couldn't even sell it to someone else for R100. I learned my lesson, I created a new SimCity_myname@gmail login and bound the game to that, so I can at least sell it cheap if it sucks :)

I'll agree with your view on where the simulation calcs are taking place. I've had little messages pop up about the server not being available but I've still carried on playing and then another message comes up telling me that the game has synced.

What it does do is store the game on the server - there isn't a local save.

I'm going to re-install StarCraft 2 tonight. Last year I played SC2 WoL Campaign (Normal) ONLINE. Is it still impossible to unlock new achievements if playing HotS offline? :( MWEB is no longer a reliable ISP anymore. I don't feel comfortable playing SC2 HotS campaign knowing that my internet connection might go kaboom any time.

If they consider making the plot sizes bigger, they can maybe get me back to playing it. I can deal with the online-only, but those plot sizes are ridiculously small.
