Battlefield 2, Crysis 2, and Command and Conquer 3 are among the affected games

It's not technically EA shutting them down. It's because they rely on GameSpy for multiplayer and GameSpy is shutting down.

Same here. It still has a thriving online community and now it's probably going to be dead.

You guys could use the direct connect method (LAN) and choose someone to run a dedicated server..

Then it's not a big loss. The game was primarily singleplayer and the coop was just you and a friend holding off waves of enemies.

Probably because they realise the new games are cr*p and they don't want people reverting (like BF3).
