It's been a few years since a Need for Speed game popped up on Android, but EA announced last year that NFS: No Limits would arrive this spring. The game has already launched on iOS in a few regions, and the early reports indicate EA is up to its same old in-app purchase tricks. Actually, it's maybe even a little worse. No Limits will charge you to fill up the tank, which is funny because that sounds like a limit. Can't be, though. The game is called "no limits."

EA will basically be employing the always fantastic wait or pay mechanic in the new Need for Speed. You can either wait for a certain amount of time, or pay to fill up your tank immediately and keep racing. Each race uses up a certain amount of your fuel. It's like the ambiguous energy level used by some games, but employing the gasoline metaphor we're all accustomed to from real life.

The IAPs won't stop there. EA will have multiple currencies in the game too. The more rare will be gold, which is used for "premium" transactions. You will be able to buy it for cash money, then use it to fill your tank, upgrade you car, and so on. None of this should come as a surprise. It's EA, and EA loves in-app purchases to the point it will happily break a game to insert them.

It's not as if they're the only ones doing it. CSR Racing comes to mind

Yeah, but the difference is that EA's prices are absolutely ridiculous. The "no limits" is a reference to the cost of the game. I read somewhere you can pay $60 for 10 fill-ups. That is more than a complete PC game.

Wasn't aware of the pricing. Mind you, I've never bought anything in CSR either

It takes true degeneracy, the worst of human filth, (the EA marketing department) to make us long for the days when we could pay for games and never want to hear of this "free to play" crap ever again.

Oh well, someone has to pay for my piracy I guess.

I actually think the scary thing is that there are people that are willing to pay those fees. I say let them pay. But if their business model falls over, I will be pointing an laughing.

It reminds me when I used to go to arcades as a kid and it was like .25c to replay which is nothing but after a few hours you'd be down like $50. Then I'd go back to my dad and be like MOAR COINSSS and he'd say nope it's all out and I swear if I had been big enough I would have pummelled him to death on the spot. I guess it's that feeling they're trying to elicit from gamers.

the sad thing is that people will still buy and play anyways.

***** EA

This also sucks:

Scary. Pay like IRL for petrol.

Why do you miss UG2? It still works on Windows 7.

Mmm had a little bit of issues, but my point was more I miss how UG2 was I wish they could move back to that.

How? On 64 bit?
Exactly, 64 bit. Putting on compatibility with "Windows XP Service Pack 3" worked for me, besides infrequent crashes.

I wish too, that big companies could go back to oldschool games mentality, but gaming world have been shaped already. Only indie devs can save our minority from today's monstrosities of AAA!

I thoroughly enjoy Real Racing 3. I've been playing it on and off for over a year and I'm still just over 60% complete. They also use money, gold and up to 5x 'Drive' (which is the equivalent to gas I guess). You only use drive to do multiplayer and time trials iirc, but at least the gameplay doesn't actually grind to a halt if your drive is empty. You can still continue the campaign.

I hope NFS is the same, otherwise I'm out.

I'm still pissed at EA for DK.
Mobile gaming is a bit of a hit and miss, I got tired of Clash of Clans, who seriously is gonna wait a couple of days for upgrades. I play Sim City now.
