So I took the chance, ordered a 4GB DDR2 800 dimm. My MacBookPro 4,1 takes DDR2 667, but buying 800mhz RAM was so that I could shove it in the EeePC in case it fails on the Mac. It also only takes 4GB, officially.
Well, it works just fine on the MBP. I ran Memtest86+ off an Ubuntu CD, it completed normally. Booted into OSX and everything seems normal. I've been on it for a few hours now, and all is fine.
The big difference, and the reason why I did this, is Aperture. I've been hammering it for the last hour, and I haven't pushed into swap yet, despite having a bunch of other things open too.
So it looks like I'm set for at least another year or two.
