any recommendations / experience for in-ear earphones for iphone - (wired, not bluetooth).

not too keen on the sound apple earpods produce.
contemplating a lightning to 3.5mm earphone adaptor which will give some freedom of choice regards earphones, but would rather not land up with a daisy chain of cables.

i have a propensity to listen to music at a fairly high volume for extended periods (on flights etc)

so, any earphone (lightning connector / plug ) recommendations

Yes Apple EarPods are kak, but you shouldn’t then just write off the wireless options to have the deep inconvenience of wires instead.

Also there are many great wireless options not made by Apple.

The first generation AirPods although they might look the same, sound very different to the wired EarPods due to amplification added.

The AirPods Pro are in another league entirely and have the benefit of a proper seal and noise cancelling.

The newer AirPods I haven’t tried personally but word is they are better than the old ones for sure…if they fit your ears nicely.

And of course there are now the new new ones coming that also have noise cancelling.

Any of them beats the trauma of wires.

And there’s plenty of freedom of choice outside that without wires.

hmm
you may have missed this bit:
I did read that part, I was maybe suggesting it as the USB-C ones comes with a DAC.

But then again the sound quality was never the best forte.

I've a big fan of Soundcore, they have a few wired options, perhaps look at one of their options?

airpods pro - never tried them, will go over to digicape and take a listen

their price puts them alongside these

Two massive things with the AirPods Pro 2.

They have air channels so they don’t cause a vacuum in your ears like many/most others of the same variety.

They come with four different sizes of ear tips so you can get the perfect fit and then you can go one step further and upgrade them with memory foam tips and other varieties.

The Noise Cancelling is amazing and the audio is really good.

Apple also lets you literally scan your ear with your FaceID phone to create a custom personal audio profile.

I bought these Xiaomi wired earphones and the sound quality is great. The reviews were quite good on takealot. I’ve had them for about a week only though but loving them so far.
The Apple lightning adapter will do the job.
I’m also particular to having a wired set of earphones as backup as I can’t always have a chance to charge my wireless ones.

one of my favorites were skullcandy titans - back about 8yrs ago were only about R250

very good noise cancelling, clean highs along with deep and tight bass.
i've had all sorts - senneiser, bose, sure, bla bla bla - interestingly, listening to music at relatively high volume for hours on end, the skullcandys never left my ears feeling fatigued and needing a break - whereas all the others did.
cant speak for other skullcandy models, but the titans were pretty good - with lifetime warranty.

after a few years the one side developed a fault - no hassle, no problem, walk in replacement.

the originals:

the replacements

the replacements still going strong, sound like new - but worse for wear

AirPods Pro 2 are brilliant. Some of the best sound quality on the market. I’m constantly impressed by them. Before even getting into their Apple ecosystem integration, particularly iOS.

Sennheiser CX-100 are great wired options for cheap.

Not sure about iPhone support specifically , but In terms of sound accuracy at a budget, Google KZ Acoustics, like the KZ ZTE range. Can also get cables and spares etc. (Pro range ) I haven't tried it myself but have heard good things and when have some finances would like to get a pair. With takealot it is fairly hassle free to return something.

Why not look for good noise cancelling instead of basting your ear drums?
