Our stove is the only item not on essentials on the solar system. It is only the stove, not the plates, as these are gas.

The installer removed the original old earth leakage out of the DB as he identified it as too old and the stove does not need to be on EL.

Now only the essentials are on the EL.

What are the regulations, must a stove be connected to an earth leakage?

The stove is not put on the EL. It has been that way in numerous homes I have lived in including this one.
He should have replaced the EL in any case

That surprises me.

Anything that a person can touch should be on EL.

To not be on an earth leakage device ,the stove must be connected with a stove coupler with the connections pounting down ,its a metal sprague tube and is earthed ,any other connection type must be on EL unit ie 3 pin plug .

I'm confused. What's the difference between the stove and the plates?

I think it's to do with the fact that because of the elements absorbing moisture, the leakage current is rather high and will lead to nuisance tripping. Since the whole thing is earthed and in metal it's not an issue

Stove off earth leakage to stop nuisance tripping as DAroodt pointed out, you can also have your house lights off earth leakage so you're not left in the dark when an appliance trips EL.
Note: They are still Earthed, only not on EL.

Doesn't clear up my confusion at all
A stove is not classified as an appliance so doesnt need el device as manufacturers make the spec for it ,its not portable hence the stove coupler ,and it also is not considered a device that can be immersed in water during operation ,so is considered safe .

My question is regarding the difference between the stove and the plates

That would make sense. Gas stove, electric oven.
A stove is classified as a complete unit ie ,warmer, oven and plates ,an oven is just that,a hot box and the plates on there own are classified as a hob .so gas hob and electric oven .
