Meyrin, Switzerland - The most powerful atom-smasher ever built could make some bizarre discoveries, such as invisible matter or extra dimensions in space, after it is switched on in August.

But some critics fear the Large Hadron Collider could exceed physicists' wildest conjectures: Will it spawn a black hole that could swallow Earth? Or spit out particles that could turn the planet into a hot dead clump?

We're all gonna die..........

"The LHC is a machine of extreme hot and cold. When two beams of protons collide, they will generate temperatures more than 100 000 times hotter than the heart of the Sun"

Wanna tan?

No thanks...

Scientists are responsible people. They will never go to the point of creating a black hole that might swallow in the whole earth.

Surely no one thought the world would be destroyed by this? Have seen a couple of conspiracy stories about this particle accelerator ending the world.. but I though that was for the "Jerry Springer.. I sleep with my mom" crowd.
