Easiest way to track down a death

Long story short, i want to check if there is record of someone having died.

Is this information that gets published and is accessible for the general public? Are there any online resources that can be used?
And what would the best way to find confirmation?

In SA, for an amount, you can make sure someone gets dead.

And if there are such a database for you to see, the name on that list would have the id name, not a MYbb nick or Joe young, but Johannes or Arnoldus Johannes Young.

So to clarify further, I am interested in recent deaths, preferable confirmed by some official, legal channel. I'm guessing there is not central repo of obituaries for south africa?

I'm trying to figure out what the best OSINT way is to figure this out.
