Eastgate Sterkinekor revamp.

After just completing a major restructuring at Eastgate they at it again.

Was annoyed at first but discovered they going to completely move the cinemas upstairs to the food courts.

I think they made a mistake by moving the food section upstairs as it no longer has the buzz it had before when it was near the movies.

So now some Prestige cinemas and an IMAX theatre will be joining the food court upstairs.

Looking good but expect major parking and shopping disruptions for a the next few months.

Was there 2 weeks ago and it was a nightmare to navigate.

Parking lots, escalators and passageways closed.

Seriously hope its worth it cause I'm not going back for a while

It's not too bad tho. They made good provisions for the upgrade.

Eish... Eastgate /shudders

Eastgate in December /shudders uncontrollably.

Makes sense to have the food court and cinemas together though.

As I watched the tower crane slew overhead with yet another load of concrete I wondered whether all the inconvenience would be completed by 15 December. By crook or by hook the construction company WILL close on that day and if they're not done it will be a very frustrating festive season in Eastgate.
Does anyone know when they'll be finished?

I think i might have seen a movie in imax after all - saw elysium in sept '13 and the picture was just brilliant.

The planning/timing of these current upgrades is stupid. I think I will stay away from there for the next while. Speaking of malls - if there's mall in need of an upgrade like it needs a hole in its head it's East Rand Mall (and North gate).
