Easy Equities good or bad?

Hi all. are there are ETFs or similar that are USD priced on EE and will track the USD interest rate (just over 4%)? Or something similar that's guaranteed to give around the interest rate or more, and it's kept in USD?

On the SA side you can buy ETFs which track US treasury bills. I am sure that you could buy that directly in dollars on the US side.

Hi. So I’m about to open a TFSA and RA account but not sure if I should do so under EE - where my other accounts lie.

I mean aside from costs, is there any other reason to open with another broker like Sygnia? Is “broker diversification” a thing?

Sygnia is super cheap. 0.55% (skeleton 70)

10X for RA.

EE for TFSA is how I do it.

There is a concern of too many eggs in one basket from a company going tits up point of view.

And while you wouldn’t necessarily lose money in either case it might get locked up for a long time should something happen.

maybe check what your bank offers as a TFSA?

My honest advice related to banks, I gave fnb 5 years. Poor performance. Moved it to EE. All smiles now.

But shop around and compare fees.
no, I was thinking of the bank providing a trading account where you choose the investments

I think we're missing each other.....
I have a TFSA with ABSA stockbrokers (and other trading accounts)
I decide which ETFs I buy and sell
It costs me only the minimal trading fees

Last I checked that “minimal” was astronomical compared to EE.

I seem to recall there were also huge minimums otherwise there’s a hectic monthly fee which EE doesn’t have.

Which is likely fine if you are pushing your full 36k a year into it, but most people aren’t doing that and even if you are why throw money away.

they charge 0.2% or min R15 (what do EE charge?)
If you dump the R36k in at the start of the tax year (which I do), there are no mnthly fees

That’s not what the website says, unless TFSA is different.

https://www.absainvestments.co.za/wealth-and-investment-management/e-docs/stockbrokers/bu-docs/Absa%20Stockbrokers%20Brochure%20ENG.pdf#:~:text=Absa%20Stockbrokers’%20Online%20Trading%20Service%20is%20quick%2C%20efficient,per%20deal%20Flat%20rate%20of%200%2C4%25%20%2B%20VAT%2A

Brokerage is 0.4% with a minimum of R120 per trade and R800 admin fees a year.

EE is 0.25% but no minimum.

But yeah I suspected that’s what you were doing because that’s the only time it makes sense.

Most people aren’t operating like that and would at most for R3k a month and likely a whole lot less so Absa doesn’t make sense.

It’s why I quickly cancelled mine for the kids which is only a few hundred a month as it would all be lost in costs.

Okay right you meant this one.

Monthly Fee : None of you trade often enough, otherwise R35. (So a lot of active effort to avoid costs)

Fee : 0.2% R15 minimum but trade must be R250.

So that’s really 6% if you are doing the minimum investment.

Even if you do the 36k once off it will be a lot of hoop lumping to keep the monthly fee out the way and just another thing to manage.

As a platform beyond just TFSA, ABSA is extremely expensive, but more is it was also an extremely cumbersome and old school platform when I last used it a few years ago.
