Easy Equities good or bad?

If you selected to have the dividends reinvested you will get more shares. Otherwise you will see some cash in your account
Ignore me, i see above there are no dividends, so in that case its auto re-invested, you dont have a choice what to do with it

I didn't know you can use your TFSA as a trading account (and pay no tax on gains). Seems like that's what this person is doing. Buying/selling.

You can happily buy and sell inside the container.

You just can’t pull the capital out of the portfolio.

Well you can, but then you can’t put it back behind the 500k limit.

But there’s no indication of them buying/selling from chart it’s just bad data in a chart of growth that appears annualised but actually isn’t.

Also they need to learn how to work out percentages, clearly.

Personally I don’t sell, but if something stops going green I’ll stop adding more to it and pivot to something else. Selling is realising your losses.

Got a question on buying bonds instead of a fixed deposit if I need the funds in a year.

I think the JSE bond calculator is giving me the correct expected yield if I buy R187 now at R1.05 with about 9.5 months to maturity. Yield is about 6.8% (annualized) which sort makes sense if the cashflows are as follows:

Buy at R1.05 (current price on EasyEquities)
Get a coupon of R0.0525 in June
Get a coupon of R0.0525 in December
Get back R1.00 in December on maturity.

My question is, this seems sort of bad? You can get fixed deposits and 90 day notice accounts with a slightly higher return with a bank. A friend said that government bonds should get you a couple percent higher return than a fixed deposit. So I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding something.

Did anyone experience any issues with Easy Equities regarding the below

Debit order cleared my bank, but EE held my TFSA funds for 4 days and only allocated them into my TFSA after I complained. 😡

It was concerning that EE could be doing this to random customers. Deposit monies into their bank account earning interest for a few days.

To date EE has not responded to my written query sent almost a month ago regarding my concern.

If this was a once-off glitch, how many other “glitches” go unnoticed in the background that could possibly affect the value of our investments?

They don't seem to have checks and balances in place which is concerning.

Mine also took a long time.

- Did all the paperwork and transferred to them on 13 March. That's when the money left my previous TFSA.
- On 19 March they sent me an email saying they received the transfer certificate that I had sent on 13 March but they were still waiting for the funds to clear.
- On 23 March the money finally reflected in my EE TFSA.

So that's 10 days the money was somewhere, earning interest for someone else. I checked that there was no interest added for the 10 days. The same amount that left my previous TFSA was added to my EE TFSA.

They sent me this on the 19th, a full 6 days after the money left my previous TFSA. I don't know where the money was if it wasn't in my account during that time:

We have received the transfer certificate from your current service provider and are now awaiting the funds to reflect in our bank account. Once the funds have cleared, we will proceed with the allocation process to your EasyEquities TFSA account.

I had the same issue, took 6 weeks to transfer a TFSA, 16 days wasted on EE side while they were "processing" things. I had to follow up to get things moving. It's not automated like they make it seem in their FAQ

Very simple, I was in the same boat. And in short, they paid extra interest added in. Just put your foot down
