Then what's with carrying on about the spread? Nobody is arguing against this point, in fact we've been saying this from the start.
Let me remind you of your comment - "Not sure how to get this through your skull - EE is investment for dummies and lower income users."

You act like I don't know it when it's the very thing I've been trying to drill into your and Sauron's skull.

That's the thing. They decide the spreads but in reality they can buy and sell shares for very different prices. An example is Renergen where they pay R7.10 currently per share. Just yesterday though 17.92k shares were traded for R13.95 so they could have easily gotten R13.90 for those shares. If you watch the trades you'll see they don't appear on any platform immediately. In fact some of those trades may be them. So if they were always doing live trades I'd cut them slack but as they're not I'm not going to.

Do you mean to say that EE controls the spread and how on earth do you buy a share for R7.10 if the current price is R13.90?

This guy is a trol. He's moved on from trolling FNB, now he's on EE.

Really?

The way he goes on you would think he works for a competitor - but he's a bit too dimwitted to be honest. He is totally confused about limit and market prices and how they are set.

He's comparing a current price, with yesterdays price. Wow, seriously SWA has no clue!

BTW - seems like he does not have access to live pricing ether - else why would he be looking at data that's 24hrs old? "big investor" my ass. They way he talks as well with this..

so they could have easily gotten R13.90 for those shares

I think he's confusing the way the JSE works with Bid or Buy or Gumtree.

You guys should all just keep calm and trade forex...

That's where we separate the men from the boys...

JSE is an utterly poor excuse for an exchange...

The best education you will ever get in investing and trading will come from trading high volatility instruments on margin...

Very interested in this.

Does anyone trustworthy operate an MT4 based system in SA? Would prefer not to have to go through the hassle of taking cash out the country...

Sorry to say but there is no such entity in South Africa...

There are however very reputable, regulated and trustworthy international ECN brokers who offer interbank liquidity and very low commissions and spreads, with instant execution across an array of order types (limit, stop, market, oco, hedging, etc)

You are literally out of your mind if you want to trade anything on margin with these Fx bucket shops we have here... Rather take your money offshore into a currency that is relatively cheap currently in dollar terms if you are afraid of local currency appreciation relative to the Dollar...

Think GBP, NZD, AUD, CAD...

Have a look at brokers like pepperstone, tickmill, dukascopy (jforex not mt4)... I use all three of the above in live trades and have never had any issues with payment, execution, spreads, lag, slippage, etc... Even during news releases...

This is going off-topic, maybe we should start a separate thread to continue this discussion in earnest...

It seems as if you are just itching for a pi$$ing contest so you can prove how utterly f$%#@g awesome you are. If you haven't realized it by now then let me help you understand. No-one cares about you being a legend in your own mind!!! Go start your own thread about your imagined superiorness.

You remind me of the guy who told his date: "I'm done talking about myself, it's time for you to talk about me."

Edit to add: With your username it took me about 10 seconds to find out who you are.

Thanks for that - very helpful.

Cannot find much impartial advice in SA - no dedicated forums about FOREX that I could find - on not much on the other share based forums ether. I guess because it's so international there is no real need to have forums based in SA about it - although, of course, there are still SA based questions. I wonder if Patrick over at shareforum might be interested in opening a sub forum on it.

Just scratching the surface at the moment with tiny sizes - will carry on with GT247 and there rather appalling charting software. I won't bitch though, they are cheap but there software does work more or less. Will need to prove to myself that I can make constant profits over a few months before withdrawing any money from my long term portfolios.
