The worst news reader ever made!
On a serious note, Outlook can't resolve a multipart download. Instead of getting an actual rar file, Outlook tries to read it as a text file which ends up looking like gibberish. Try Grabit or Newsbin

Am not disputing that. The 2 newsgroups that I frequent are normal posts (text) so OE works fine. For the odd binary occasion, I do have another client, might be Newsbin, not sure

I prefer to use REGET with my easynews account - my ISP shapes the hell out of everything apart from http and a couple other protocols.

Yes! AND they gave us an extra 5Gb for cocking up their zip manager upgrade. Having 2 accounts that meant an extra 10Gb this account cycle

Easynews Search tip

Easynews Tip, when doing your search include "autounrar" in your search string when searching for AVI's.

Easynews automatically joins all the file parts together to form one AVI file if all the parts are present. Saves you having to download the zipped files, unzipping and then joining everything together yourself.

If IS had an interface like Easynews I would switch!!

Personally I avoid the AutoUnRars incase there is a problem downloading - say a powercut. Much easier to go back and just download the bad rar files. Unzipping and joining is only a quick 2 step process anyway.

When your results come up look for either the complete file or for the parts needed to assemble the complete file. Your best bet is to look for a [parViewer] link which will open up a new window. If none of the parts are listed as missing click on "check all (no par)". If there were parts listed as missing hit the check all button instead. Give it a name in the "name" field and hit zip.

Now you're in the Zip Manager - use a download manager - they recommend Reget. Copy the "download" link over to it. Add in your username and password.

You'll need winrar (or similar) to re assemble all the bits into one file.



I try to avoid downloading the compete file incase of problems - eg power cuts. That way I only need to download the corrupted smaller rar files.

If you dont want to use http downloads and want to use a standalone news reader application then you can do that also.

When you say "add in your username and password" how exactly would one do that? do you put it into the URL?

If you using FDM - when you add the file to it tick the "login is required" and put your EN username/password in there.
