So I started my bidding on eBay US last night. I know it's the wrong time...just before Xmas and all that, but I just wanted to get a feel for the whole process.

So far my highest bid has gone up to $375.

Shipping costs around $70 for AirMail (4 to 10 days) and $90 for Global Express (3 to 5 days), which I'm cool with.

The majority of the bids seem to level out between $400 and $500, and I know it's because the sellers say they will ship in time for Xmas.

Some guys even are selling the Wii's for $599. I wonder which people are buying it for that amount. Desperate times, desperate measures.

So I'll let you know if I am lucky. It'll probably die down after Xmas.

:L:

P.S. - strange thing, all the sellers that are willing to ship worldwide, the only people that are bidding on them are buyers from the US, or Canada. No other foreigners.

I have been looking and at times VERY tempted....I know that there will be a decline in price after xmas...so thinking I iwll wait till after.....but at times the urge has almost bested me...let us know how you do....

some research was done a while ago which proved that there is no point in bidding before 10 minutes before the auction closes. all you are doing is driving up the price.

I don't usually bid 10 minutes before the auction ends. I usually put my highest amount I am willing to spend on the item.

If it goes over that amount...then tough...I look for another item.

it depends on the item and the traffic it is getting. If you really want the item then I suggest you put down the maximum amount you are willing to pay. If you get outbid then so be it...

On the other hand, if the item isnt getting much traffic, then sometimes the high bidder will have put in a price well below what he would have if he knew you were going to pull a fast one...then ight at the end, you outbid with too little time for him to have reacted and bid a higher amount.

Sometimes this can backfire when you are bidding on an item you really want.

BUT last bu not least....I blame Sony that I dont have my Wii......why you ask..because I pre-ordered my Wii on Lik-Sang in November 2005...pretty sure I woulda had it by now!!!! Sony can ......

Looks like the average closing price is down to about $430 or so....but there are still a few that reach teh $500 mark..not quite suer why such a discerpancy in pricing....might have to do with location, ie people who live in the same city as the seller might want THAT console for quick delivery or pick up?!!?!?!

can yu do that though? just outbid someone like a minute before the auction closes?

Yup....it's called sniping.

There are actually programs out there that do the sniping for you. Like your highest bid is $300, then a sniper can bid at $301 at 10 seconds left in the bid.

It really pees me off when this happens, because why can't they go and bid on the same item for a lower price from another seller. Unless the item is really rare.

So I have a bid for $298...my max $320. It will probably get outbid before the auction is over. There's like an hour left.

Any update so far ?

Someone out bid me on that one by $325.

So next runner up - $370 (high due to game included).

Edit: Whoops...spoke too soon. Outbid by $375. Next bid $420 (two games included).

:L:

was the closing bid on that last one $375? If I can get one for $400 of less I will get one. If you find a an auction where the seller ahs more than one I would be willing to try and buy one of then we can shaer expedited shipping costs, again if the seller is willing. Let me know what you think and then I will start to look too!?!?

That $375 one ended at $535.

And the $370 one ended at $465.

Next one has my highest bid of $370 (Zelda included).

I know all of this is a little hopeless now...but is it fun. hehe

well I suppose that Nintendo did say they wanna sell like 6 million of htem before the end of the year....hopefully that means that in the next day or two they will be flooding the market with these things and then the price will be closer to rrp...I decided to wait I while back but when I go on ebay i usually experiences long, severe and sustained momments of weakness...HELP!!!

OK, so I've won an auction.

The guy has 184 100% feedback. He had 3 up for auction, and I won 1 of them for $378 + $55 AirMail shipping.

Hmmm...will I get it. Let's hope so.

Cause last night, I was watching Wii's that I lost a bid to previously and they disappeared out of my watch list. And I checked his profile and it said "this user is no longer registered". He had 103 100% positive feedback.

So was that a scam? He was communicating with me and all of that. Told me how much shipping would cost, etc.

Now this other guy I won the bid from, he was not so communicative. I asked him a few questions, and his reply was very short - "Yes, I ship worldwide. You may bid on the Wii". So I'm very vary now.

I have sent him a mail asking for a final price and eBay invoice for me to make payment. If he says to me, just pay me via PayPal to so and so address, then I think I'm gonna pass.

I'll let everyone know what happens.
