Is this a real remedy. Reason I ask is that I went to the ER this weekend. Turns out I have some sort of viral infection.

I was quite surprised to see the doc prescribe this in addition to other meds.

I was always under the impression it's homeopathic.

Pretty sure it's homeopathic.
What does the bottle say?

I don't think it is homeopathic. I think it is "natural medicine".
I wouldn't waste my time with it though.

Ja. I just checked. It is an herbal remedy. Not homeopathic. It has actual ingredients.

I usually don't take herbal remedies and I won't touch homeopathic ****... however I was sick last month, and I mean sweating out a fever. Lady at work recommended Echinaforce. I can't say that it was the reason i got better but I took it in conjunction with traditional Western medicine and after 4 days I was back to being human. When you are that sick there is nothing you won't take to get better.

It's a natural antibiotic. So it will not help for a Virus but it will help with the secondary bacterial infection.

You should not be taking anti-bacterials for a virus. Few people get a secondary infection and if you do, a doctor will prescribe the best anti-bacterial for you. Taking small doses of anti-bacterials like this does nothing but create more resistant bacteria. So you are doing more harm than good.

I dont think natural antibiotics like this would create resistant strains to pharmaceutical grade antibiotics?

Because antibiotics is artificial and created in the lab, dont work the same way as naturally occurring agents would work?

At the very least you will be creating superbugs resistant to that natural antibiotic.

Correct. Echinaforce actually contains 'something' in significant amounts which means it could or could not have measurable effects - would have to look for credible studies though. Homeopathy is just water.

Its not an antibiotic, its an immune modulator.

Echinancia is not an antibotic, it is an immune system stimulator. It is effective for both bacteria & viruses.

It is an immunostimulant, a substance that boosts the body’s immune system. Unlike traditional antibiotics that kill bacteria directly, echinacea works indirectly, killing the germ by strengthening your immune system. While the entire echinacea story is still being researched, there is some evidence that it stimulates the body to produce more infection-fighting white blood cells, such as T-lymphocytes and killer white blood cells. It may also stimulate the release of interferons, one of the body’s most potent infection-fighting weapons. Interferon kills germs and also infiltrates their genetic control center, preventing them from reproducing. Besides helping the body produce more infection- fighting cells, echinacea helps these cells to produce more germ-eating cells, called macrophages, and it helps these cells eat the germs more voraciously, a process called phagocytosis. Echinacea also prevents bacteria from secreting an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which enables them to break through protective membranes, such as the lining of the intestines and respiratory tract, and invade tissues. Echinacea also seems to search out and destroy some viruses, such as the common cold and flu viruses. Here are some questions you may have about this valuable addition to your home pharmacy.

I've been taking Echinaforce as an immune booster since childhood. Usually I take extra doses once I get sick for the same reason many people dose up on Vit C once they get a cold. Maybe that's what the doctor prescribed it for, and didn't intend it as a medicine?
