Thought I would make a thread where we can share Ecoflow tips and ticks.

It looks like Ecoflow is rolling out firmware that allows you to set AC to always on as well as some other automation options.

This is good news for those that are looking to turn their Ecoflow units on before loashedding starts via smart plug and Home assistant.

Looks like the new firmware is available for the River 2 (previously it was only avalbile for the D2 and R2M). I read some reports that the older River Max is also getting the update. I still need to check on mine.

Home Assistant can talk with Eskom se push APIs so one should be able to turn your Ecoflow on before load shedding starts via the ESP schedules, HA and a smart plug.

One should also be able to automate charging via a smart plug. E.g. If battery is below 50% turn smart plug on, if battery reaches 100%, turn smart plug off.

Youll have to set your Ecoflow to time out after x minutes in the Ecoflow app to turn it off automatically.

prob a stupid question, where do you get access to ESP APIs?

hi guys - I used to have a Mecer Lead Acid 2.4KVA inverter that was just plugged in all the time. Can anyone confirm if the EcoFlow River 2 Max can function the same way? I dont want my laptop battery draining if loadshedding hits and I am not home...TIA!!

Yes you can use it the same way. I personally do not like doing it because the Ecoflow is a very expensive device and I think there may be an impact on the lifespan of the unit in the long run. But the unit does come with a 5 year warranty which is great...

Be careful about charging small devices via the USB C output. That's what I think blew my battery.

Just get two 12V 50ah lithium batteries and a wifi smart plug you can switch off remotely.

You can keep it plugged in permanently if you use one of these automatic transfer switches:

Yeah I do the same. The main thing that one still needs to take in to consideration is that you still need to charge it manually vs leaving it plugged in where it is charged automatically. I use a smart plug to charge mine remotely.
