ECS Nvidia Mobo Sound problem (Most likely something to do with HDA)

So a board on one of my Pc`s popped so I bought the ECS Nvidia GF7100PVT-M (V1.0)

I only had an older copy of Windows XP on me, so I installed that... then I installed the drivers... then I installed service pack 2. There are no conflicts in the device manager and the sound simply wont work.

Its using this sound setup:

8 Channel High Definition Audio
Integrated 8-channel HD Audio CODEC delivering advanced multi-channel audio and bringing you the experience of home theater-quality sound.

I think the problem has something to do with the HD audio drivers with windows or something. I dunno. I did try google a lot, and someone suggested drive install the windows HD audio codecs (I downloaded it from this link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33566.exe ) and then the Realtek HD codecs afterwards. That didnt work.

If I take the mic off mute I can hear myself talk into the mic.

In my control panel I have an IDT Audio Control Panel... which doesnt really help me much. It does do jack detects and control the volume and stuff.

In the sound settings under the Audio / Sound Play back settings for wave I have 3 options. The default is NVIDIA HDMI Audio Wave (this is the default)

The other two options are IDT Audio 1 and IDT Audio 2... if I try and change it to either of these devices there is no improvement.

Anyone know what could be causing this problem?

strangely enough i had the same issue with a ASUS board, (with nvidia hd sound as well). But my front audio ports worked but the back ones didnt. even tried to install vista and that didnt work. The I installed Kubuntu linux and what do you know it worked perfectly!!!!!! Something is up with the win drivers I think. Try installing Kubuntu 8.10, it will probably work after that

@ wizard> please download and install kb888111 if you are on xp sp2 level. then do the sound driver again.

@ sigma> go control panel/realtek hd audio manager, click the spanner, and select "disable jack detection"

a lot of these problems are caused because your case has an ac97 front audio connector, but the motherboard uses hd audio. funny things happen in these situations

Thanks werner.. giving it a try. I did try install version 1 of this file, but I see this is 1a. *sigh* another 70mb download.

Problem solved. My solution:

1. Uninstall MS HD UAA driver
2. Uninstall all sound drivers (this includes removing the realtek drivers)
3. Restart PC
4. Install kb888111xpsp2 |(MS HD Audio drivers for SP2)
5. Manually installed ITD HD drivers (comes with cd).. DONT install the Realtek drivers. Whats also important about this is when you choose the manual option it gives you a list of the driver versions. Dont install 6.1... only install the 5.1 drivers.
6. Restart

Well thats what did it for me. I put the solution here in case someone else comes across this problem.
