Ed could you please let us know what sort of UPS or other power backup a base station has and what sort of time limit it can stay alive when eskom goes down?

Reason I ask this is that CT is once again suffering from eskom's incompetence, and going by the last time the base station went down within 30min while my systems backup UPS/generator kept my PCs' alive right through the outrage.:p

The Iburst towers in JHB that I have been to have got petrol/diesel generators on them for backup. I have been to the towers many times during power outages and hearing the generators purrrrring :-P Dunno whats in the CT area.

*not an iburst employee, just stating what I have seen at some of the towers*

Thanks for the info RichardP, but going by the last time we had an outrage in CT the tower went down as I said so I guess we only had a UPS on the Plumstead tower.

So far this time it's still up after 1hr 20min, hopefully Ed could give us some feedback as to what sort of up time we can expect.

EDIT: ok it outlasted the 2 1/2hr outrage that we had so I guess it must have a generator this time. ;)

Hi Mr H

The base stations in CT have UPS's that last 6 hours when there is a power outage, the main node bts's have a generator too which will last about 36 hours. Very similiary arrangement in the JHB region too.

Hope this helps
Ed

Ed, Thanks for your reply at least now I know I'll still have connection as far as the base station goes.:)
