Everyone was chuffed with the cheapest data rate in South Africa . . . . . but alas little did we know it was going to be the worst data service ever!
I can count the number of times I was able to connect & use the internet on my one hand !
I have spoken to the Call Centre, the Flagship Stores and even the data guys and the best answer I get is . . . . ACCORDING TO OUR SYSTEMS EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE FINE ON OUR SIDE . . . Do they expect us to believe these lies ? ? ?
I have got friends all over KZN and amazingly we all seem to have the same problem . . . . . And "if" we do manage to connect on the rare occasions you can surf but at speeds about 10 times slower that dialup.
Why can't we get an answer to all these problems . . . a simple straightfoward answer . . . not "EVERYTHING IS FINE ON OUR SIDE"
This is extremely frustrating!!!!

Someone Please Help

Thank you for your post ZakMan,

Where in the KZN area are you? Pls supply your location so that we can check what coverage you have in your area specifically, whether EDGE or GPRS. This will assist our netwrok engineers to filter to your specific area, we don't have any general network problem in the KZN area. Most of towers are up and running and the only time we expect you to have a problem is when normal downtime is done on the network. Please foward me your details to [email protected] so that we can have the coverage checked. Thanks you for acknowledging that we still offer the cheapest data rates in South Africa.

Thank you for replying Fortune, BUT like I said earlier on the only answer we getting is according to your systems everything is fine and thanks for proving that:D
I live in Pietermaritzburg and I live in central town.
My mates are in Raisethorpe, Mountain Rise, Bisley, Howick, Camperdown, Chase Valley, Wembley, Clarendon, Pelham, Scottsville and Hilton.
Those are just a few that could come to my mind.
What do you mean have the coverage checked ? ? ?
A few months ago everything was perfect . . . BUT NOW
What could have happened to your towers ?
When I queried this about 2 months ago the guys @ the call centre
said you guys and cellc where upgrading the towers.
I think everything went well for about two days after that and then . . .
back to square one.
I would prefer feedback from you guys on this forum.

Lol

I live in JHB and i got so frustrated with connecting to the internet via my cellphone that i went out and bought one of those CELL C modems which AFAIK is the same one Virgin Mobile provides.

*MISTAKE*

The coverage and connectivity is marginally better than what i got with my cellphone. Its just as frustrating and the signal drops just as much.

This is with like +70% signal. It takes like 5 or 6 tries to connect and then when it connects *MAYBE* data gets transferred. Usually i have to reconnect again.

I dont care about the speeds as the speeds are fine for what i need but i just wish it wouldnt drop all the time.

Arghhhhhhh

Initially the speeds would have been great because there would have been much fewer users on the network. As more people started using Virgin (because of the price of 50c/MB) performance would have decreased. During peak times you will most probably experience deficient performance because of the network congestion.

With regards to dropped connections, I have read elsewhere on this forum that voice calls take preference over data, so when there isn't a slot on the tower that you are using to allocate a voice call, a data connection gets dropped to allow the voice call through.

Thanks you for clarifying that sky.akash, there is normally high users during peak times. Unfortunately this is the norm when you use packet data.

ZakMan pls send PM me your details including your cell.
