Okay, I'm assuming my 6310i isn't going to be EDGE enabled? So what phones are currently available that support EDGE and which can be recommended?

The Nokia 6230i looks like a great EDGE phone (assuming you are not interested in 3G). It can do EDGE class 10 (236kbps), has Bluetooth, and some other useful goodies as well. It won't cost an arm and a leg either.

But if you want EDGE and 3G, rather wait for the Nokia 6680. I'm drooooling over that phone! It's got everything except the kitchen sink. Must probably prepare to fork out a couple of thousand for that one.

Thanks. Thats a good starting point. What would be really cool is if you could get a EGDE phone that doubled up as an mp3 player. I wonder if anyones thought of that yet...

6230 does that but u'll need a BIGGER memory card to hold all your mp3s.

The Nokia 6680 and 6681 will do that. There may be others.

Also see here http://ct.cnet-ssa.com.com/clicks?c=106595-536206&brand=cnet-ssa&ds=5 for a really powerful combination phone, PDA, and iPod. Unfortunately the form factor is a little clumsy, and the integration is not elegant.

Does it support adding memory cards?
U get it with a 32 meg card (free), then u can buy 64, 128 or 256 whatever u fancy. Unfortunately u use one card at a time.

Cool, thanks for the feedback guys. MTN should really think about making some of these phones available on contract. I bet they'd sell well. I'm thinking about switching to mtn so I can get EDGE. By the looks of things its going to be alot cheaper than v3g.

They do!!! I Always have been given a choice, and recently upgraded my contract with the new iMate PDA2K hardware. (I also use a Nokia 6230)

Need to get an upgrade for a business phone and stuck on which phone to get: Want bluetooth, EDGE, 3G, email, full html browsing, third-party apps. Would value any advice. My thoughts so far, but open to correction.

9500 / 9300 - horrible form factor
Blackberry - no EDGE or 3G
Imates - no EDGE or 3G
Motorola A1000 - 3G, no EDGE, not yet available
6630 - no touch screen, awkward text entry without bluetooth keyboard

So, do I get a 6630 now (or 6680 some time in the future), or wait for A1000 and accept normal GPRS data transfer speeds until MTN launches 3G? Are there other options?
