Educational (Android) Apps for kids

Towards the end of last month I bought a cheap tablet for my 7 year old for her birthday, but then the 4 year old fought non stop because she also wanted one (*sigh). So I bought her one as well.

I had a look at the apps/games on those things and...daym! There's only games about doing hair, feeding animals, etc on the things. The biggest reason for this is because its easy for them to just download from the play store based on the images. "Pic looks nice, click download".

So this weekend I'm going to format both and put some educational stuff on'em.

Anybody got advice on edicational (more or less age appropriate) games or applications for a 4 and 7 - year old girl, respectively?

Hmm... 7 years old is a tad difficult.

10+ years and all you need is youtube and subscription to smartereveryday, vertitasium, numberphile, Vsauce (1+2+3), minutephysics, Viheart etc...

They are by far the best educational tools.

That's the problem I'm sitting with. The younger one is just learning to recognize letters now so the games in the App Store are a bit too advanced.

The 7 year old is smack bang in the middle: too old for the reading and math games and too young for me to let her do her own thing

There are a ton of apps for young ones, have you looked in the kids section of the Play Store? There's the Endless Alphabet/Letters/Numbers games, a whackload of Disney games, all kinds of Dora and kids' show based educational type games... just do a bit of exploring. Most of them do cost money though, to get the good stuff.

I see what you did there....

You're inferring a level of intelligence and forethought that's far beyond me, I'm afraid. Unintended pun :p

By the way: a kids section in the Play Store? Post link perhaps, I cannot find it. Thanking in advance.

Never mind...I just put "kids" in search bar and bingo.....

some suggestions would be appreciated here too. My daughter(7) scored a Nexus 7 a few months ago. There are some great games and her worlds in Minecraft are incredible. But I also struggle to find games for her.
I never knew there was a education category.

On a related note. A while ago I chatted to a headmistress at a private school and asked her for some good educational tools to encourage reading. And she told me to look online for Cammie (Cammy, Kammy, Kammie?). I never got the spelling from her.
I can't find anything. Anyone?

Aha! Found it. Just had to step back and rephrase my google-fu. Cami
