Educational Conundrums...

Luckily for you I won't highlight the error in your sentence above...:p

:o Thanks!!:o

Blame it on the fact that I have now marked so many MXit inspired English papers that I am having difficulty remembering what is correct and what is not!!;)

hahaha lol... will make a concerted effort to now use "people".

For some reason I always want to write "poeple", instead of "people" :o

Luckily I have the habit to reread everything before posting, which helps only slightly.

Isn't that how language evolves?
The MXit generation knows it's wrong but still finds it acceptable. After having learnt from the MXit crew, the next generation will probably not even recognise complete words

That is exactly the point! One of my top English students is brilliant at debating, and probably an A++ in every respect until I have to read some of her written work all full of MXit shorthand. If she is doing it, I can only imagine how simple it will be for the less talented English student to slip into the same rut....bloody horrific thought!!

Ooooooooooh... you mean devolving... gotcha!

I don't use any of the MXIT language except "ppl"(now defunct), but could one look at it as the modern version of shorthand used by our parents ?

No, shorthand used by "our parents" was a specific concoction of squiggles and words devised by Pittman so that secretaries could take very fast notes whilst their bosses rambled on ad infinitum.

MXit shorthand is something devised by lazy teenagers to help their thumbs....
