EFF, DA at odds over NMB mayor

THE EFF walked out of a Nelson Mandela Bay council meeting yesterday following a fallout with Speaker Jonathan Lawack who rejected a motion of intent aimed at ousting mayor Athol Trollip.

While the ANC followed suit, the DA and its coalition partners continued to push through a number of items on the agenda.

When the EFF and ANC councillors were physically out of chambers Lawack said there was no longer a quorum and voting discontinued. The EFF was unhappy because it had submitted a motion of intent on May 10 which was aimed at removing Trollip.

However, the motion of no confidence among four other motions was not cited on the council agenda because paperwork had not met certain “requirements”.

Other motions brought by the United Front and UDM sought to remove Lawack, chief whip of council Werner Senekal and rescind a council decision to dissolve the office of the deputy mayor.

Instead of fighting and carrying on like hooligans, how about they actually sit and and try figure out how best to serve the people they were employed to serve? :rolleyes:

It's the political party pastime, everytime they are bored the try and pass a vote of no confidence on the opposition, the DA tried it a couple of weeks ago against David Makhura, it failed.

It is not frivolous in the least. Athol Trollip has committed the eternal crime of being born with a white skin, and thus the brave fighters of the EFF, ANC, UF and UDM must continue the struggle.

Well that is perfect then isn't it.

Either the DA keep Msimanga in and you accuse them of corruption, or they get rid of him for not doing his job properly and you accuse them of racism. Which one do you want it to be?

Well Makhura presided over a government that ended up literally killing people.

Its not necessarily what is needed for a no-confidence vote... but as far as I know Msimanga hired a person (who was doing a good job regardless) without the right qualifications, and she has now resigned..... Think the outcome is acceptable on that front.

:D I am not the one going around settling political scores with frivolous motions, let them do as they wish.

That is technically for the electorate to decide at elections.

Motions of no-confidence are usually when there is evidence that the person in question cannot do their job properly.

That requires a lot of working brain cells... unfortunately, a large percentage of South African politicians lack working brain cells. Call out the BS and you are either labelled a "racist" or a "clever black". I saw snippet of parly yesterday and I was highly annoyed at Mr. Steenhuisen acting like a fool. Same for Maimane. Foolishness everywhere... ANC, DA, EFF... you name it, they have it :( . Some of those politicians are parents; what do they say to their children who see them acting the fool on TV in Parliament?? :(
