It's welcomed the new names approved for some areas in the Eastern Cape this week.
Port Elizabeth's being called Gqeberha.
The city's international airport has been named after Khoi-San Chief, Dawid Stuurman.

Vusi Khoza, who's with the EFF in KZN, says taking our history into consideration, Durban's name should've been changed long ago.

“These are the people that used to be called ‘explorers’ but D’urban was an administrator for the city and he found himself being honoured by having this city named after him."
"There’s nothing wrong when the city of Durban is named eThekwini but obviously it’ll be a process of consultation, proposals will come through, we’ll look at the list of proposed names.”

please do it

I'm still disappointed Piet Retief wasn't renamed Dingaansdorp/-ville. Do like the Klingons and Necromongers and keep what you kill.

I'd go and murder Kim Kardashian's daughter if it means I'd get a province named after me.

Maybe they should change it to an Africanised version of its original name:
Port Khusimusi or Port Khusmus

Yet there are still a Kraal in the Eastern Cape with the K word in its name

But, I guess there is not enough money in tenders to change the name of such a small place.

He's a Brit? No, no, definitely rename it.

In January 1834 in South Africa D'Urban took office as governor and commander in chief of the Cape Colony. His administration was complicated by the exodus of Dutch farmers to the far north and east (known as the Great Trek) and the outbreak of the Cape Frontier Wars of (1834–1835) due to clashes between the colonists and the Bantu-speaking Xhosa peoples. He drove back the indigenous peoples and annexed the territory between the Keiskamma and Great Kei (Groot-Kei) rivers. He was in office when Britain abolished slavery, established municipal and legislative councils, occupied Natal (now KwaZulu-Natal) and named it as a new colony for the British Empire. To commemorate this the name of the principal port was changed in 1835 from Port Natal to Durban.

Barely a year in the country and they renamed it. And they say the ANC is bad.

Oh go find a little rock to hide under Vusi.

The Zulu's gifted the land that Durban is on to the Brits largely so you actually don't really get much of a say, no land was stolen from you.

In my view change must happen and it must be dealt so decisively. Change is too slow.

Globally, it is politically supported though it is in doubt economically.

The ANC should grow a pair, and do as promised.

So yeah, rename Durban, open up the ports to BRICS. Get done with it.
