That is what I want to know, and also why did the police officers on site not turn away the buses once the crowd had reached the legal capacity?

See I entirely disagree on this front. The cops are not tied, but they're downright incompetent.

The area should have been closed off once the first 2 buses arrived and all other buses escourted far enough away that the occupants couldn't walk back, and even if they tried they should have been turned away.

This is just a monumental failure of planning and implementing basic crowd control measures. You don't let it get to the point that you can't control it.
 
The 'police have their hands tied' nonsense is just that. An excuse that some find convenient. Avoiding another Marikana is not an honest conversation. There are many policing strategies that fall between Marikana and the police standing doing nothing.

again, they had somebody sympathetic to their cause, (police, organisers, local police "commander/captain/Sargent")
I don't think it was an accident, 1500 people isn't an accident.

They can try not letting it get to some point but ultimately it will lead to violence, which is what the EFF are looking for to begin with so it looks like the government has decided to take this approach for now, we can agree or disagree with it but that's how it is.

Are the cops equipped enough to carry out those strategies?
 
What? The cops werent eatting their jellydonuts but instead did exercise by walking with the EFF?

What the heck is happening with the police force. They are actually getting exercise?

Where the F were they went stores were looted, and businesses were destroyed.

I have decided to shut down all businesses I own in KZN and move then to the Cape Coastal towns instead.

No more faith in the Police of KZN government.

Then they need to get violence and the results thereof. Notice the EFF has never been back to fetch their beret from Brackenfell? Why wasn't Malema in the front of the protest either?

So are you saying that the cops must now just back down when a small grouping of people threaten violence against them?

I know that area of town very well, and 2 or 3 cop cars in 2 locations would have been MORE than sufficient to stop the buses and turn them around forthwith and no violence would have been initiated by the police to make that happen.

Government took the "standy and monitor the situation" approach a decade or more ago and its now become impossible for them to do their actual job.

No matter how you look at it, the EFF is being privileged.
