The house of an EFF member was torched in Khayelitsha on Monday morning, the party said.

"After successful campaigning... this weekend, a candidate of the EFF Western Cape... has had his home gutted by a fire in the early hours of this morning," said Economic Freedom Fighters provincial spokeswoman Yerushka Chetty.

The party's leadership would visit the member on Monday afternoon.

Captain Frederick van Wyk said he was not aware of the incident.

"Nothing has been reported at the police station so far," he said.

Of course nothings been reported yet Frederick...

The house still has to be torched (after they've moved all the valuables to a safe location for the publicity stunt)

EFF marquee torched in Thokoza

Johannesburg - The stage and marquee set up for an EFF rally in Thokoza, south of Johannesburg, has been petrol bombed, the party said on Saturday.

"During the early hours of this morning (Saturday), people came and petrol bombed the marquees, stage, sound system and chairs," said Economic Freedom Fighters spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.

I doubt that. With his H in woodwork I wouldn't be surprised that they tried saving money on their pyrotechnics and "did it themselves" and then it went off and burnt everything down.

Now they can claim from insurance too :)

Not to worry.

Malema will give him a new one.

He'll just pick one, under land reform rules. Its as easy as that

No it was apartheid. With a petrol bomb. In Thokoza.

I can't be the only 1 bleak by these replies. EFF or not, a guy's house got torched >.< (Yes, I'm assuming here that it wasn't staged)

It's the eff... It's a shame that the house got torched... But id assume political meddling by the eff themselves to prove some kind of point... We haven't heard of torchings of da houses or ifp houses in a while... Or it might have nothing to do with politics at all and the eff are just jumping on the bandwagon

In the Western Cape things seem calmer but its different for us folk in the Eastern Cape.

Front line councilors in the Transkei are often under attack here. Its a pretty common tactic used by the ANC to intimidate DA supporters in rural areas. We actually have support networks to counter violent threats. When a counselor or member is threatened an sms alert is sent out. A whole lot of DA people go out to the area and surround the house to form a large blue circle around the home. I did a course with a young female leader from Dutywa who told me that they threatened to burn down her moms house if she attended the course.

I'm in the wonderful area of Kzn which can be just as violent as the ec... Have heard of intimidation but no houses being burnt down and such for a long while....

It does sadden me that political affiliation is still such a divisive topic in this country... Why do we care what party someone supports...

Is it just me or is this Captain Frederick van Wyk everywhere? :P

Has it been confirmed as arson or just a cooking experiment gone wrong?
