eFiling issues - Adobe reader?

Attempting to submit my tax return via eFiling - when I select to open the ITR12 document both Firefox and Safari offer me the option of downloading a file named: 'LoadReturn.aspx' as opposed to just opening the damn thing!

Anyone had this issue and know the solution?

Soz...I logged in there yesterday and was prompted to download the latest when I wanted to pull up the IT12 [oh, yes...working from WinXP + FF]
 
Ah, but I have Ver 9 - and I still have problems. I can open it just fine, but when I try to save it gives me a charset error :( ("An error occurred during the submit process. Cannot process content of type text/html; charset-utf-8")

Had the same problem last year, which I avoided by doing my eFiling at work, but I can't do that this year so I really need to get this sorted.

I have the same problem at home and at work. Anyone care to help or give some advice?

It seems to be a problem when using firefox - it works for me in IE, although I had to uninstall and reinstall a few times to get ie to see that I do, in fact, have the latest version of acrobat installed.

&%*£#! Today it won't work for me IE, it says I don't have the latest version again! I'm going to have to reinstall Acrobat every day at this rate!

Considering how hard they're pushing everyone to use eFiling, you'd think they could come up with a reliable solution!
 
I had the same problem; fortunately, on one of many attempts, I received a message telling me what my problem was.

In Acrobat, Click on EDIT / PREFERENCES / INTERNET and check the "Display PDF in browser" checkbox. Then close down Acrobat and open the tax form again from the eFiling page.

This forces the PDF form to open in the SARS Browser window. If the box is not checked the PDF comes up in a separate Windows window, and I assume it then loses all the session information needed to file your return successfully.

Once I had the setting correct, I had no more problems. It may also explain why some of you have had intermitent problems.

Hmm... from what I vaguely remember, that could well have been the difference... I'll have to refer back to this thread next year ;)

SARS e-filing on AppleMacs

I've experienced the same problem, but even setting my preferences on Acrobat to display the return in the browser window did not fix my problem.

So I phoned the SARS call centre. The lady on the line told me nicely that I just can NOT file my tax return on a Mac.

I told her I would like the tech team to fix this problem for next year because more and more people are buying Macs and we need to be able to file our returns too. Shed said that she doesn't think they will.

They just expect us to sort this out ourselves! :mad:

I have done it on a Mac - I used Safari not FF though.

Thanks. After 3 hours of struggling - downloading Adobe 9, changing preferences, completing and saving countless IT12s, and finally trying Safari not FF (IOU SlinkyMike) - I got my return submitted with 30 minutes to spare.

Thanks for the tip about Safari SlinkyMike. Next year I'll know to use Safari instead.
 
Sorry to pull up an old thread but I have this exact problem with Firefox and Adobe Reader on a Mac. I have Adobe Reader 10 and I don't think Firefox has anything to do with it because it is not embedded. I believe this is common problem with Adobe Reader on Mac (not Adobe Pro though). Using Safari makes no difference as it opens independently in Adobe.

SARS have actually come up with a new solution; Flash which works fine. But some forms are not available in Flash yet (eg. RFR1) and so now I just cannot submit those. Anyone ever fix this? I would love to find a solution.

Thanks. While this makes sense unfortunately my settings already tell Acrobat to open in the browser window. The solution appears to be for Windows which means Mac still has an issue. It actually appears to be a bug where the setting is not correctly set!
 
I started getting this same problem (as well as the problem where adobe downloads the form >< ) and did a bit of digging around.

While i had problems with Firefox, IE was loading the form perfectly.
Still, I wanted to be able to get firefox to work.

If none of the solutions provided in the first few replies don't work for you:

- open Firefox
- go to Tools
- go to Options
- go to the Applications Tab
- look for any of the Adobe products on the list
- under "action", make sure they say "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)"

This finally solved my issue. Hope this helps someone.
