EFT payments v card payments

There is no logically sound reason to pay someone with EFT over a card unless you are really getting a massive discount and it's a well known to you supplier with a reliable history.

Even then the odds are your bank's rewards program on said card may negate this discount.

Ouch. I should definitely get myself a CC again.
It's Platinum and upwards whether credit or debit card.

Also if you are having issues with a CC merchant you can contact their payment processor. They are loathe to have dodgy merchants on their base as they are chargeback risks

Some cards give you up to 2 years extended warranty. That extended warranty probably comes with many caveats. So don't expect brilliance. Also some Visa cards give you 90 days short term insurance on your product too, if it's stolen or accidentally damaged.

The consumer protections and warranties that you mentioned. I need to make time and look into it at some point.

You get what you pay for. And as you pay 0 for this, you get close to 0. The benefits really are in charge backs. It's the bank's money so they want to make sure the purchase is legit and fulfilled. Otherwise you may get some perks such as airline insurance or maybe cashback. I have the Woolies black card and that gives me unlimited free woolies regular deliveries (so 28-31 deliveries per month are covered). I can order a liter of milk every day and the chaps from DSV couriers will deliver it.
