EFT VS Credit Card

Then they need to be reported to Mastercard and Visa and taught a lesson. If you want to run a business and accept credit cards then you have be prepared to suck up the 5% charges. If you can't then tough luck.
The thing is, as a customer, I don't mind the price mark-up when I pay with CC.
I think that Mastercard and Visa are being extremely unreasonable with that rule, and that it's outdated.

Any idea what the reporting procedure is?

PCZone take credit cards, they have a FNB machine on their cashier desk. They just tell you that it will be R100 more per product if you whip out your credit card.

Luckily there is are ATMs from every bank close by.

I don't get it. Paying by CC is instant, they get your money, you get your product and you are somewhat protected from fraud. EFT is a hassle, doesn't clear immediately if interbank and you have no recourse.

Personally I would be happy to pay an extra 5% in most cases.

Yes, but the point is you shouldn't HAVE to pay 5% extra for the pleasure of using your credit card.

So I wonder what they will say if you tell them that you are going to report them to Mastercard and Visa if they charge R100 extra.

Tell that to Sahara - perhaps it's a different set of rules for brick and mortar but they dont accept credit cards anymore with tacking on an additional 5%. Same goes for Esquire.

The pain is compounded by the fact that Sahara wont accept more than r200 cash either!

ya I don't deal with Sahara... imo every thing I have ever bought from them has given me trouble in some way or another. I deal with Rectron. They accept cc and don't charge anything extra.

i may be under correction, but i believe mastercard, visa, discover, amex etc rules for merchants say that you CANNOT enforce penalties on a client for using their cards. So this thing of R100 for the product or R105 if you pay by card is actually in violation of the t&c's as it promotes a negative view and use of their cards.
