EGA trunking and double insulation requirement

I know conduit counts for double insulation, I.e. you can put single insulated wire into conduit to meet code. What about EGA trunking? Can I make s join using chocolate blocks inside EGA trunking without having to insulate with tape?

Instead of choc box connectors rather use crimp ferules or Wago. I would think because the cover can be removed or lost you would want to insulate any open connections inside EGA.

I'm more concerned about code. They're not accessible to everyone.

no joints allowed anywhere in tubing except in junction boxes also not allowed in inspection boxes or elbows ,unless youre talking about trunking ? and not tubing .
 
Trunking, yes.
what do you want to join ? if loose wires nope not recommended really ,if cabtyre you can use a cable joint of the appropriate size ,if loose wires you could use ferrules and crimp them and cover in heat shrink then tape but not really an approved method ,if i was to inspect that and deemed it safe i may authorise it depending on location .
 
Twin & earth 1.5mm for lights. 4x blocks for live feed to switch feed, neutral, earth and switched live to lights. I stagger the joins and do them individually so they're not next to each other.

get a couple of 4x4 junction boxes with number 0 compression glands if you look inside its like a figure 8 gland ,do your joints inside them ,use ferrules and sleeving .black blocks make hot joints that do erratic things and are not safe .junction boxes must have a secure lid that can only be opened with a tool .rather be safe than have an incident that costs money later .
 
It's on a wall near ceiling height in the garage.
The regulations dont say you can use it so its a dark area in a dwelling . If above 2.5 m its maybe safe, trunking isnt classified as it cant be sealed and joining is a pest, you may not access the wires without using a tool to open, if you crimp and shrink seal, you may be ok, depending on the install.as for double insulated, putting it in trunking doesnt mean its double insulated only protected.wireways are classified to carry a certain amount of wire only depending on size of cable, that is critical. So difficult to say yes or no. I wouldnt use trunking in a house with standard conductors. But the regulations are quite clear on joints in a wire way.

Thanks Sollie, so 4x4 junction with ferrules / heat shrink in line with the trunking would do?

it would be safer ,the regs are all about minimum spec and safe ,so if it can be deemed as safe and the appropriate glands and fixtures are used you will be ok .you dont want a ceiling fire when you not around .

also whichever route you take ,just make sure you are using a stamped sabs cable and it must be of copper ,earth can be ally .no aluminium conductors or copper clad conductors are authorised in sa .so no china mall cable .wherever a cable goes into a junction you must not be able to pull it out and you may not be able to touch any live point with a finger .be safe .

Ja, all aberdare. Crazy that one has to even think of this stuff. SAPS turn a blind eye to the crap at China malls.
 
Its fine, you can use trunking. A roof is not a common space. Connector blocks are ok too

please post that regulation that says connector blocks are ok in a conduit /trunking ,if there is one ive never seen it ,its also not according to the author in a roof space but near ceiling height,one of the reasons asking about if in a roof space .
