Ekurhuleni metro cop found murdered

Johannesburg - An Ekurhuleni metro police officer has been found murdered, his colleagues said on Thursday.

"Superintendent Koert Jordaan of the EMPD's Equestrian unit was found dead at the Springs dam," said EMPD spokesperson Clifford Shongwe.

He had been shot. Two spent cartridges were found at the scene. His service pistol, cellphone, and bakkie were missing. It was suspected Jordaan was killed in an armed robbery.

Shongwe referred all further questions to police, who were investigating.

Two held after cop killed while fishing

Johannesburg - Police have arrested two men in connection with the murder of Ekurhuleni metro police officer Major Coert Jordaan, who was stabbed to death while fishing at a lake in Springs.

The men were arrested in Daveyton on Thursday night and were allegedly found in possession of two unlicensed firearms, Jordaan’s Nissan Navara and a knife.

Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the men were in their 30s. The guns found in their possession would be taken for ballistic testing.

“The suspects will be charged with murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of a stolen vehicle when they appear in the Springs Magistrate's Court within 48 hours,” he said.
