Just heard from someone yesterday who works for the IEC that they kicked into gear some time ago to hold the elections earlier than 2009 should Mbeki resign.

Obviously they know something we dont.

Good management, be prepared for anything.;)

Indeed they knew something we don't. We're now in September and it indeed happened.
You guys could've made bets, and won :)

Well, elections won't happen earlier. Most probably only later because the ANC first has to restructure and recollect themselves before they can start with an election campaign.

They would drag this out for as long as possible.

Ag.... Whats the point of having elections in a African Country in the first place? There will always be majority rule no matter how badly they do it.

Im not sure I understand your comment

I am just being defeatist and negative, the masses will always vote with their hearts and not minds in Africa. So my opinion is that a majority black rule is inevitable. And I then would question why hold elections at all? Thus why get ready to hold it if the outcome of majority rule is so predictable.

And in answer to Mieliespoor I would say that this whole JZ / Thabo thing is just that. The anc getting all their ducks in a row for the next “Democratic” election. So.. The elections wont be earlier, just the masses better lined up to give the anc even more power.

Of course you do.

But if you really need an explanation: he meant that it doesn't matter how much the ANC f-up, the people will still come out and vote in the hordes for them.

This is Africa, if they don't get all the votes, they being the ANC they'll rig the thing to ensure they get all the votes. Same old, same old. Hence why people say the elections are a foregone conclusion.

And if they don't like the new president, they'll just vote within the party to have him removed... Great to be a South African! :p
