So i won one of these at our local SPAR yesterday.

What a nifty little electric bicycle. i'm going to start using this to the shops and back everyday..... luckily i am close to all the shops, no busy roads, nothing. Close to Woolies and the other shops, as i drop my son of at home and then i normally have to go to the shops for him for something to eat.

took it for a spin yesterday afternoon. Managed to hit a top speed of 40km/h going downhill :D

i think this little Extreme Bike is going to save me some money in long run. 3 hours charge gives 60km range as well.

Also, it needs no license or registration. Brgain

Power: 250W
Max. Speed: approx. 25km/h
Battery Type: 48V/12ah
Battery Charging time: 3 – 4 hours
Travel Distance: approx. 60km per charge
Max. Load: 150kg
Rim Size: 16inch
Tyre Size: 2.125
Weight of Bike: 63kg

So, are there hacks to allow a bit more power and to get rid of the limiter that stops it powering you at 25km/h?

agreed

Just always wear a helmet.

+1
And it is actually the law. In October 2004, regulation 207(2) of the National Road Traffic act, (act 93 of 1996) became effective after being passed three years earlier.
The regulation orders the compulsory wearing of a protective helmet that is properly fastened and fitted while riding a bicycle or being carried as a passenger.

You need to realize that you have 0 protection on that thing.
It's not your driving you should be worried about it's the 10000s of inconsiderate drivers that will knock you over and keep on going.

true that, like i said the distance to the Woolies / Romans / Dros / Bottle store is 1km. most of it in security estate, and about 100m outside. so WHAT can go wrong

well seeing this thing goes about as fast as a bicycle, this could actually work no ?

Well, according to the Makro website it meets the EN 1078 standard, which is the European standard for pedal cycles and skateboards.
